This is a walk through a decade of Misha Kahn's work. Brilliant, wobbly, furry, ingenious... no adjectives adequately describe such a vast production, ranging from underwater mosaic sculptures and scrap metal chaise longues to a labyrinthine-style ball game encrusted with gemstones and weathered dolls. . Misha, who is not strictly an artist or designer, avoids categorizing his works for fear of being pigeonholed and blocking new paths. It is this boundless energy for every new material or technical challenge, combined with his unique ideas and aesthetic, that has made Misha a leading creative voice of his generation.
This is our second collaboration with Friedman Benda (after Faye Toogood: Assemblage 6, Unlearning) and Misha's first book. Inside, his sketches, process images, final works, and installation montages are contextualized in six candid conversations (at a nail bar, on a hike, in a backyard) with other creative luminaries: Nick Haramis, Dries Van Noten, Wang Shui, Kellie Riggs, Todd Oldham, and Su Wu. These works are prefaced by writer and curator Glenn Adamson and his reflection on Misha's practice over the years, while our author adds a final touch, annotating the book by hand with commentary on his own words and works.
