From Biarritz, Romane Peychet Lacaze draws naked women struggling with everyday objects. A universe crazy enough to invite her to sign an entire summer mini-collection.
"I love the purity of the naked body and the softness of the forms they represent.
I grew up surrounded by strong and independent women, free, without shame, in the Arcachon basin, by the ocean and on naturist beaches. A place where all kinds of bodies meet, without complexes. This is probably why femininity and nudity have naturally become the engine of my inspiration.
I like to mix women and everyday objects, and I like to see female forms everywhere in my daily life. My drawing is very simple and uncluttered, some call it "playful naturism". I use the least possible number of lines so that the two elements represented end up being one. If I had to describe my work in one word it would be "metaphorical". Everything we do, experience and touch can be a metaphor. From society, beauty stereotypes, consumption in love, friendship or excessive consumption.
My work is compromised. I take the expression "woman-object" literally to play, but also to denounce consumerism, beauty dictates and women's liberation. I belong to the generation of women "photoshopped" in magazines, to excess without it being clear to the reader. So I grew up with the "perfect image" invented by society in defiance of the everyday woman. My illustrations are my own way of representing this era that has long made me feel self-conscious and out of place. Food, for example, represents for me the ephemeral par excellence. It is devoured, savored, finished and then we start again...".
